À propos du livre
n the following 20 pages, you will find images from where I am standing, stopping for a moment, and reflecting on what my camera presents to me. Everyday objects or scenes catch my attention and cause me to raise my camera and take a picture.
This ongoing series of images has been happening since 1985 when I first learned about photography. Now I'll be collecting my favorite photographs, three months at a time, in a quarterly review of what I see and how I feel. The images are in no particular order, other than they seem to have a dialog happening between the facing pages.
There is a language within the frames. A visual language that suggests a closer "reading." They are subject to your own interpretation and may read differently to you from what I am seeing. The messages may even evolve or change depending on when you view them and what is happening around you.
All of these images would have existed whether I had my camera with me or not. They can linger in my mind's eye as I experience my current surroundings. Photography, however, locks it in. It allows me to vividly revisit the subjects. It allows me to share them with you. It allows me to rearrange them and break them apart from their logical order in space and time, giving new meaning through sequence and juxtaposition.

I have been carrying a camera with me for 30 years. I shoot the things in life, where I am. The subjects are usually not beautiful on their own, but somehow strike me by the beauty found in their commonality. Not the extraordinary, but the ordinary. Simple, usually quiet subjects that may go unnoticed. Black and white because I guess that is how I have learned to see. To me, my images feel a bit sad, a bit strange, a bit interesting, and the subjects, somehow unique. I hope you enjoy and thank you for visiting.
