À propos du livre
With the expansion of the information age, shelter facilities which historically relied on secrecy are now having to shift their focus to security methods. Domestic Violence (DV) shelters, which until recently were unanimously secret, have begun to develop new more public models due to changes in the accessibility of information, public policies and advancements in trauma-informed design. The UC Berkeley Architecture studio course entitled On Sanctuary; Architecture Possibilities for Domestic Violence Shelters researched existing typologies and proposed new architectural potentials for designing purpose built sanctuaries in the Bay Area. Fifteen architecture undergraduate students at the University of California Berkeley’s College of Environmental Design participated in the studio. The studio took the stance that as long as domestic violence exists, communities and architects must come together to support the transformation of DV facilities. This publication is a completion of the work and research done throughout the course.
