À propos du livre
In 2009 Spiro Miralis travelled to Greece (his parents' homeland) where he made this portfolio of wonderfully honest pictures. Like a wandering poet open to the opportunities that only experience can offer, Miralis, as usual, has allowed himself total freedom while making these photographs. So much freedom in fact, that I can feel him cringing, wondering why on earth he was photographing the things that he did. The word 'courage' may seem out of place here, perhaps I should use the term 'self-belief', but these are the attributes revealed when work of this nature is published in book form. Unlike many earnest photographers, Miralis is compelled neither by subject nor light. At times his nonchalance towards the medium is so strong, it seems as though photography itself is of little concern to him. When it comes to photography Miralis works only for himself, he works without thought of what it is he may, or may not produce. This is the only way in which the auteur is entirely free to experience the world, and perhaps to photograph a little, too.
