À propos du livre
Throughout all ages and cultures, masks have exploded our ideas about what it is to be human. Through masquerade, disguised beings can activate archetypal worlds and play into weird memories of story, dream, magic and myth. In a mask, the human experience of individuality is short-circuited and inert matter becomes a living breathing altar through which we pray, shape-shift and transform.
As children we always loved to play hide and seek.
Masks are the friends of Tricksters of all colours and shapes, challenging and dislodging with a crude immediacy many of our polarised assumptions about identity and citizenship.
Alumni of Divine Ridiculous gatherings, rituals and performance processes have participated in explorations of this rich territory and left their own unique and personal markings in the archives. Here we present evidence of our magico-artistic research relating to the Tarot card variously entitled The Magician, Le Bateleur, Il Bagato, El Brujo etc.
As Oscar Wilde famously said:
Man is least himself when he talks in his own person. Give him a mask, and he will tell the truth
