À propos du livre
We travelled the Argolid and photographed its fascinating scenery and ancient sites during more than five years, from 2015 until 2021. Our photobook was not intended to represent a complete overview of the countless landscapes, hills, valleys, and mountains that are present in and around the Argive plain. Neither did we want it to be a full documentary introduction to this mythical and very ancient region in the north-east of the Peloponnese.
Its purpose is to try and allow the reader/viewer to be seduced by the photogenic, unique, and varied scenery, by the way the sunlight and the vivid colours shape and paint everything - from rocks over olive trees to mountain tops, and even by the glorious elegance of modest flowers and grasses. We hope that this testimony of the beauty of the Argolid will convince more people to visit its hidden treasures and to stay a bit longer than most tourists usually do on their short daytrips to Nafplio, Mykinai and Epidauros. May our “Views of the Argolid” be an invitation for you all to explore the almost unknown valleys and mountain paths, which so gracefully blessed our photographs with their wild, natural beauty.
Please note that, although since a few years the volcanic peninsula of Methana is no longer considered to be part of the administrative unit of “Argolida”, we did purposely include a few photos of this magical place, as it definitely did belong to the Prehistoric, Mycenaean, and Classical heartland of the Argolid during so many millennia.
Finally, it was Love that brought us to the Argolid, made us stay with no intention to leave, and inspired us to photograph in an attempt to honour its mysterious Beauty. Yet, it is Love again that now beckons us to search for new horizons, new photographic adventures, and new sources of inspiration. We dedicate “Views of the Argolid” to our wonderful muse, Chloé Valentina, who features in our second photobook: “la muse et le jardin”.
