À propos du livre
UNSAID WORDS is a socially engaged portrait project created from intentional connection and conversation between myself and individuals in my community of Portland, Oregon, exploring individual experiences of moments and words gone unspoken to those both living and dead. The project documentation is executed as large scale watercolor paintings with the Unsaid Words scrawled on top, mixed between faces to allow a layer of anonymity between the 20 subjects. The mixing of the words away from the original speaker also asks the audience to ponder who could have said what and find which words resonate within themselves. The work aims to spark questioning, inner reflection and connection to others.

À propos du créateur
Ashlie Brazell
Portland, OR
Ashlie Brazell (b.1989, Fort Worth, Texas) is a non-binary artist and first-generation student. They are as sensitive as they come. They cry at sunrises, the way light filters through trees and hits the pavement and music that places them within a memory. Ashlie’s art practice combines conversations and relationships with traditional painting and photography practices through themes of grief and mental health. They are passionate about teaching art at the secondary level through a trauma informed, mental health lens and have researched ways to work with our youth to help them develop skills in mindfulness, connection with each other and their communities, self awareness, coping, self confidence and so much more, all through art.
