“Chickings” Peddler
The author writes and paints stories --of his struggle to overcome poverty, ignorance, and lack of motivation to find fulfillment and happiness. His work follows his families' path from colonial time to the space age. Short stories, and oil paintings are his specialty. The families of: Steeley, Ingram, Elliott, Franklin, and Deans are highlighted in this work. Stories of soldiers, preachers, brick makers, ghost, house painters,a mother with an indomitable spirit, and one ole alligator "Caller" are here -- plus much more. A few titles --- " How to Catch a Husband", "Payday in the Swamp", "Making the Whistle Blow", "Annie", "Crushed Dreams", and "Rocking Doll Baby", “Breakdown in the Mohave Desert” are only a few of the many presented in the book. One most interesting story is of the rich "Queen of the Okefenokee" who at the age of sixty-five married, the love of her life, a boy of twenty-one. She called him, “Doll Baby.” He shot and killed a man, and the Judge said, "To the chain gang you shall go". For the price of a bull, a Georgia Governor let him go -- but that's not the end of the story!
The author's sixty-year search for his family roots are recorded in this book too. This is a 276-page picture books filled with personal stories, painting, and photos of the life of the Ole "Chickings" Peddler that will entertain, encourage, and inspire. He presents his view of the future in a very dramatic way as well! The author believed this book of memories will become a family treasure to be cherished for generations to come.
