Gathered in this zine is the writing and artwork created by participants of DSTL Arts’s Conchas y Café creative writing classes for adults. Through poetry and short fiction, drawings, and photo composition, these workshops empower participants as the artists they are, helping them develop new skills in storytelling.

The theme for Conchas y Café Zine; Volume 8, Issue 2: Estrangulados is “Censors.” Through poetry and writings that consider the impact of censorship in various capacities and the existence of censors across history, our writers respond to the denial of expression often imposed on the people who fight for justice, equality, and representation. Gathered here are creative takes on the insidious nature of censorship and the people who impose it. Gathered here are the words of those who have bared the brunt of ostracized people, and an invitation to join in the fight for free expression.
