Gathered in this zine is the writing and artwork created by participants of DSTL Arts's Conchas y Café creative writing classes for adults. Through poetry and short fiction, drawings, and photo composition, these workshops empower participants as the artists they are, helping them develop new skills in storytelling.

The theme for Conchas y Café Zine; Volume 9, Issue 1: Buried Seeds Grow is "Out of Place." Through poetry and writing that explores the concept of "being out of place," our writers and artists dissect the nature of loneliness, displacement, and discrimination in hopes that these human conditions are better understood to be universal, and at times, self-inflicted. With poetry, short stories, and visual art, our artists invite you to feel less "out of place" and more embraced by our community.
