In the 2009-2010 calendar year, the Daily 49er turned sixty. Unlike most things that old, the Daily 49er did not fall into the geriatric route. It continued to strive to be the number one provider of news at Cal State Long Beach. Led by Joanne Tucker (pictured), the staffers exposed scandals, questioned the government, broke down doors, and provided phenomenal coverage of LBSU sports, local bands and venues, and the happenings around campus through Twitter and Facebook, the print edition, and Beach News.
Photo Editor Michael Chan Yee continues to blaze new ground with this sequel to his groundbreaking “Daily Forty-Niner, 2008-2009” book with a fresh, new look into the newsroom and the anonymity of the people behind the operation of the Daily 49er. In this book, you will see how the students at the Daily 49er worked, operated, celebrated, and interacted. You will see triumph and victory over the race against the deadline and the detractors who attempted to undermine the integrity and quality of the newspaper.
