You know me as a shooter of dancers because we are the ones ignored by news media on those relatively rare occasions when they bother to cover dance. Along the way I also shoot some of the other pieces of the equations. Dave Stephens and musicians are friends and buddies and part of "the scene" with the dancers who flock to his gigs.



What you see here is a persistent community circle of friends who don't sit down. Every person here gets up, and dances.



This band is close to the people who dance to their music. Here the equation changes because of the relationship of the band and its fans, who are almost all dancers who honor these musicians not just by sitting and clapping, but rather by getting up and hooting and hollering.



These pictures represent a number of events played by Dave and band in its various configurations over the years. I start the book with his first CD release on the last day of August in 1998, adding in a number of later events and finishing with one of his latest creations, the Jazz Circus.



If you are one of this dance crowd in the greater Kansas City area you will recognize a number of the people who are here.
