A Christmas story with its own Christmas carol:
Legends of the animals that visited the Christmas creche are many. One tells of the robin who fanned the flames of a fire to warm the Christ child. He stayed close to the fire so long that his breast was singed and the feathers turned red. The tale of the little brown bird, Angel, also takes him to the stable in Bethlehem, but his is a gentler experience. The artwork echoes the styles of medieval manuscripts, which related stories of the Bible and, in books called bestiaries, moralizing tales of animals. At the end of the book, Angel's story is told again in a Christmas carol--a little bird's song--with words and music.
