À propos du livre
It’s a tough time to be a journalist. Advertising has dried up, the print news industry is capsizing, and some of the best writers, editors, photographers and designers are out of work.
But that’s exactly where Nick Cummings, Aaron Thayer and Doug Bonham found themselves in the fall of 2008: young, enthusiastic, and facing the most dismal of job prospects. So when it became clear that most publications had no use for fresh-faced journalism graduates, they decided to do things their way by starting Silicon Sasquatch and venturing into the brave new world of independent publication.
Silicon Sasquatch was born in times of desperation as a blog about our shared hobby of videogames and as a platform to hone our skills. And now, two years later, we have a book! Silicon Sasquatch: The First Year or So is the product of countless hours of unpaid work, synthesizing hundreds of articles, dozens of reviews and a handful of ill-fated podcasts into one readable package. Collected in these pages are 56 of our best articles from 2008 to 2010, each newly annotated. We’ve even stuffed the book with insightful essays that pull the curtain back on the highs and lows of constructing a blog from scratch.
This book is an informal guide to the modern writing process as told by a few guys who just wanted to write. Even if you aren’t a fan of videogames, Silicon Sasquatch: The First Year or So provides candid reflections and rare advice for those taking their first steps into the do-it-yourself creative market.
