À propos du livre
This photo book contains more than 90 images of the women workers in the informal sector in Gujarat, India. They were taken in collaboration with Self Employed Women's Association - SEWA Ahmedabad between 2008 and 2010.
These images portray the type of work undertaken by the self employed women and highlight why organisations such as SEWA are needed to better their lives. Women in this informal sector do back breaking work against all odds to earn a living.
SEWA as an NGO, a union and set of co-operatives have deep understanding of the problems faced by these workers. These vulnerable women are supported by SEWA in negotiating the right wages; right rates; better social benefits; given loans for business and house improvements; given training; open trade outlets and make available numerous other support services to bring about a social change.
