À propos du livre
Galerie Sherin Najjar is pleased to present Alpha and Omega (Bereshit), the
first solo exhibition in Germany of drawings and sculpture by American artist
Graham Day Guerra.
In the large-format charcoal drawings of his series Alpha and Omega (Bereshit), Guerra combines idealized body images with the Greek letters Α and Ω. The first and the last letter of the classical Greek alphabet is the key to the old idea of the universe. In Christianity and Judaism they are interpreted as a symbol of totality and immortality and particularly for Christ as the first and the last.
But Graham Day Guerra’s fascination with devotional art and symbolism is not his only muse. Alpha and Omega (Bereshit) is equally inspired by the artist interest in post-humanist manifestos and cosmogonic mythologies. This concern is concisely portrayed in his materialistic, silicon and steroid enhanced creatures. The perfectly shaped and cloned miscreations are celebrations of a profane fantasy. Despite ascending to a theistic heaven, Guerra’s idealized figures refer to our mass-produced pleasures and prosaic consumer culture.
