À propos du livre
This work explores how we use objects and spaces to give definition to our lives, these spaces could be the home, the office, the car, the shed, to name a few. Spaces representing an aspect of ourselves, highlighting areas we would like to show and give attention.
The domestic space in the main focus of both books; my domestic space. The work has been separated into two books; one book reflecting an up-front, straight and bold side, the other a sensitive, secretive and ambiguous side.
The images in both books were taken over a period of time, showing the changing seasons, weather and light in the home, as well as the changing seasons, weather and light in my life.
What we choose to leave out can still reveal our obsessions, our philosophies, our needs. The viewer will bring personal experiences of their own spaces, maybe they will judge, compare, reject, recognise or dismiss. It's a human need to connect emotionally to a space.
'One of the basic human requirements is the need to dwell,
and one of the central human acts is the act of inhabiting,
of connecting ourselves, however temporarily,
with a place on the planet which belongs to us and to which we belong.'
Charles Moore, School of Architecture: Foreward.
