This is the diary of Nicholas V. Sheffer, a Washington State pioneer, with detailed information he wrote as he traveled from Indiana to Washington state in the 1800s. His major transportation was by canoe, and he and his party underwent Indian attacks, and misfortune befell him, yet he survived to tell his story. It is riveting!
