I see the world through my viewfinder as a painter perhaps would, or as painters would once have done. As far as photography goes, the world is a purely visual affair for me, without narrative or meaning but capable of great mood and atmosphere. It is material for a predominantly aesthetic experience. But it is an aesthetic experience rooted in the everyday. For all their formal concerns and abstraction, I hope my pictures convey a real sense of the world.
