À propos du livre
Street Photography - the attempt to catch the moment inside an increasingly fast moving world. The street, understood as the way along which we meander through our lives, is the natural place for that kind of hunting the instant.
A photographer may try to distinct street photography from life logging, to maybe make it an artwork. To that purpose, an element of the unusual or of mysticism, reduction to the essential or brilliant technique can be used.
Reflections in transparent surfaces are well suited to visualize the parallel existence of different realities. At a first glance, this may only make it a bit harder to identify the precise contents of an image. But it may carry a deeper message. Or it may not. Maybe the combination of reflected and transmitted light simply delivers a new level of aesthetic quality.
The triviality, the banality found in objects along the way as well as in artificial or natural structures draw attention to what is normally disregarded. What is simply there. What we do not care of. Giving it a unique impact by isolating it in its own frame puts meaning into the fading, into the transient flow of time. When the trivial is emphasized, somebody must have taken time for doing so. Somebody must have stolen some instants of time. Since that is sort of a secret dream for almost all of us, the result may find specific attraction. Ok, at least for dreamers and other romantic people amongst us. At least.
With the current state of my street photography outlined in this book I tried to daydream a bit, to be romantic or mystic in some plots and to be trivial in others. If one or two may be considered as kind of artwork I would have achieved a lot.
Spend some stolen moments in the space of frozen time.
