À propos du livre
I found this book among my family documents and had it professionally restored. Other members of the family wanted copies so I produced this book which I thought might have a wider audience. It contains 27 drawings made by Lt Clifford Mecham during the siege of Lucknow along with descriptions of the drawings that relate the pictures to events during the siege. The garrison of 1,800 British men, women and children, supported by 1,200 loyal Indians held out against rebels numbering 20-30,000. The siege lasted 140 days with the defenders holding a position that these pictures by Lt Mecham look completely untenable. Over half the original garrison died during the siege. Thankfully my Great Great Grandfather Major General Sir John Inglis and his wife and family were not one of them...
The pictures have had to be scaled down and as a result some of the original text is quite faint or small.
