À propos du livre
This senior design thesis was completed under Prof. Stannard of Cal Poly SLO in May 2017. For renders, drawings, and photographs, click the images below.
Commercial real estate development is often concerned with revenue over cultural, environmental and social sensitivity, which can result in projects that are disrespectful to their sites. Such thoughtless development can be particularly disruptive in small towns due to their scale. As a neighbor to the Colorado resort town of Vail, Minturn is threatened with the potential of being overwhelmed by insensitive development. This thesis presents an alternative approach, one in which the proposed mixed-use development will attempt to preserve and enhance the local community.
Four residential units, a beer bar / restaurant, deli, and public maker space are provided for the community. A popular weekend farmer’s market is embraced with ample space for booths.
The combination of local vernacular style and steep mountain ridges inspire the architectural form.
