À propos du livre
The family history of the Fishers of Hingham Hall, Hingham, Norfolk, UK begins in the late 1700s with James Fisher, gentleman farmer and owner of Hingham Hall. James married Elizabeth Pitts and they had four children. It is the descendants of these four children that are followed in the pages of this book.
The book includes some of the early ancestors of the following families — the Elsys of Hingham, Fergussons of West Wretham, Harrisons of Durban, Jarrolds of Norwich, Le Crens of New Zealand, Pratts of Ryston Hall, Sparkes of Ely, and their descendants.
Included in this book is an insight into the village of Hingham, how families were affected by the “hungry eighties”, a murder, a personal look at the Boer War, the early establishment of the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, motor racing in Johannesburg in the 1940s, the Durban sugar cane industry and farming on the South African highveld.
