À propos du livre
The principal reason for writing this ‘story’ was to give hope and encouragement to others who might find themselves in a similar or comparable situation of caring for a loved one after a stroke.
I couldn’t find a book that would help me to understand how to care for my mother's mental and emotional needs. For someone like my mother who wrote poetry, read avidly and loved words it was a catastrophe suddenly being unable to communicate in a conventional way. It was our task and our challenge to learn how to conquer the barriers that left her, initially, isolated from us.
REVIEW:
I have read many medical books on stroke. I’ve read a few written by sufferers or carers, some of which were filled with artificial buoyancy, denial and irrational optimism. Sally Cockburn’s book has a purity of purpose that avoids those blemishes and offers an illuminating portrait of love and care. It will be of benefit to all those caring for a relative
or friend.
