From the very beginning of James Blake's travels and photography James has been interested in photographing Figurative Sculpture. From Gyor, Hungary in 2005 to Marseilles, France in 2011 to Tarragona, Spain in 2017 and most recently Aachen, Germany in 2018. But the main inspiration for this book was seeing the sculpture 'Tommy' by Ray Lonsdale in Seaham, England in 2015. 90 percent of the photographs in this book were taken since seeing that particular work of Art. The response has always been one of awe at the artist skill of Figurative Sculptures' creation and the aesthetic beauty of the works created, but seeing Lonsdale's piece in Seaham added new depth to the appreciation of Figurative Sculpture. The added dimension that Figurative Sculpture exist to inspire memory and to connect people to immortality. That the past is important to remember. But mainly this book is about appreciating and loving the aesthetic beauty of Figurative Sculpture, that exists in the public domain, and is free for all to see. An amazing gift that has been given to people to enhance their lives, free of charge, and makes travelling and photography all the more enjoyable for that. Most of the photography in this book was taken in England, France and Spain, but a number of other countries across Europe too, from Wales to Bulgaria, from Holland to Portugal, Germany to Albania, and more.
