À propos du livre
Women have traditionally been portrayed as victims in film and television dramas, largely because they embody the “ideal victim”. Hitchcock once said, “Blondes make the best victims. They’re like virgin snow that shows up the bloody footprints.”
Statistically, more than twice as many men are victims of violence than women. However, it seems in film and televised media, violence against men has less value as a plot line. Often sexual content and imagery are used to suggest fetishism of lethal violence against women. In dramatized stories for film and television, women are subjected to violence while being both passive and beautiful, allowing murderous cruelty to become addictive, binge-watching entertainment.
Given that Barbie dolls are a frequent source of play and fantasy in young women, I wish to emphasize that these gruesome scenes are entertainment for many people. In my work I have taken a critical view of these typically violent and gruesome scenes which are omnipresent in today’s film and binge watching TV culture.
