The 2019 McCord Urban Design Studio developed proposals for a new Health and Wellness District in areas south and east of Generation Park’s Redemption Square, in northeast Houston, to address the potential for re-imagining healthcare as an ecosystem of wellness through the design of a community that provides a wide range of opportunities to support healthy living and care across the spectrum of life. Advised by McCord’s leadership on the Generation Park development team, the Urban Design students and faculty worked in collaboration with colleagues in the University of Miami’s programs in Real Estate Development + Urbanism, Construction Management, the Miami Business School, the School of Law, and the Miller School of Medicine to advance integrated proposals. Each of the three studio teams benefited from studio-based multidisciplinary investigation and collaborations as well as reviews with leading professionals and the McCord team. This book represents an overview of the studio process and results.
