I write fiction as J J Salkeld, but otherwise (photography, film and journalism) use Richard Simpson/R F Simpson. I've been involved with photography since childhood, and have exhibited and published extensively, until now always in the documentary tradition. I worked as a national newspaper features writer from 1993 until 2005, made some broadcast documentary films at the end of the decade, but since then have mainly written Lake District-set crime fiction as J J Salkeld. This publication marks a return to my roots: or perhaps more accurately to my foundations.
