À propos du livre
Everyone who lives a long life occasionally looks back and reflects on what they’ve learned from their experiences, both good and bad. Some feel an urge to delve deeper in an attempt to cut through to the very essence of existence. It’s a philosophic search, but one which every being, knowingly or unknowingly, undertakes at times.
Perhaps the last place one would expect to find such a philosophic searcher, though, would be in the middle of the rough-and-tumble oil and gas business of Texas. After all, philosophers are supposed to be found in ivory towers, not on dangerous, dirty drilling rigs in the middle of a hot Texas desert. But, then, how could one reach any understanding of life living in an ivory tower? If one is seeking to understand life, the only way to go about it would be to roll up one’s sleeves, throw oneself into the middle of the fray, and live!
“Reflections from the Sea of Life” is a different type of literature. It isn’t fiction, non-fiction, drama, humor, mystery, poetry, etc., although it does contain sprinklings of many of these. It is simply a single individual’s viewpoint on many aspects of life set forth under subject headings for easy reference. The reader may start from the beginning and read to the end of the book or simply pick a particular subject and read the author’s observations and reflections on it. As the author suggests, these reflections are simply outposts erected on the outer edge of his personal understanding which others may find useful as stepping stones to extend their own limits. Enjoy!
